NEC Corporation (NEC) announced today that UQ Communications Co., Ltd. (President: Takashi Tanaka; HQ: Tokyo, Japan) has expanded its WiMAX service with NEC’s base stations. UQ Communications has revised its WiMAX base station installation plan for the 2009 fiscal year from 4,000 to more than 6,000 base stations by the end of March 2010.

Telkom Indonesia has awarded a contract to PT. Teknologi Riset Global (TRG) for a nationwide WiMAX network. The Telkom deployment is in support of the recent Indonesian ministry decree to migrate existing services operating at 3.5GHz to the 3.3GHz spectrum while adhering to the 802.16d standard. Telkom has already deployed the TRG WiMAX solution in the four regions of West Java, Jakarta, Sumatra Island and Kalimantan Island.
