Present Status
In November 2007 the ITU Radicommunications Assembly approved a revision
of
ITU-R Recommendation M.1457 ("Detailed specifications of the radio
interfaces of International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000") in
which the IPOFDMA TDD WMAN is included as a 6th air interface of IMT-2000.
This new interface is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard and the mobile system
profile defined by the WiMAX Forum.
The ITU-R Recommendations M.1580 and M.1581 provide details of the spectrum emissions of IMT-2000 Base Stations and Mobile Stations respectively. Details for OFDMA TDD WMAN (mobile WiMAX) can be found in the Annex 6 of these Recommendations. Initially information for the 2500 - 2690 MHz band has been included in these Recommendations, but information for additional frequency bands will be provided by the WiMAX Forum once its specifications for these additional bands are available.
Evolution of the OFDMA TDD WMAN interface
The WiMAX Forum and the IEEE are contributing to the work of ITU-R Working party 5D towards the revision of ITU-R Recommendation M.1457-8 in accordance with the established ITU processes defined in CL/95. The WiMAX Forum is developing a Mobile System Profile Release 1.5 that would be applied in conjunction with the next version of the IEEE Std. 802.16. The proposed enhancements to the IMT-2000 OFDMA TDD WMAN interface include additional capabilities such as FDD mode and greater flexibility in channel bandwidth options.
