PORTLAND, OR – September 23, 2009 — WiMAX Forum® and AT4 wireless are pleased to announce today exciting new features now available through the WiMAX Forum Spectrum and Regulatory Database, part of a continued effort to provide a better service to the WiMAX ecosystem.
The WiMAX Forum Spectrum and Regulatory Database is a powerful tool which contains regulatory, technical and licensing information for more than 170 countries around the world. It is maintained by AT4 wireless regulatory experts, frequently offering updated information.
Some of the new features recently implemented in the Spectrum Database include:
- e-mail ‘alerts’ sent from the Spectrum Database to draw attention to specific events will now include active links related to the subject of the alert (links to a document, to the news in the regulator site, etc.). Moreover, a new section with a list of the latest alerts sent is now included.
- Links to answers submitted by the WiMAX Forum Regulatory Working Group to public consultations are now available.
- Publication of a user guide and a F.A.Q site, which will help users to take full advantage of the tool and get the maximum benefit from existing features.
- New filtering options will be available in the ‘Spectrum Availability Chart’ - not only will the maps and charts continue to show the availability of the frequency bands where WiMAX technology can be used for each geographical region, it will now be possible to configure the charts and maps according to the duplex mode allowed (TDD or/and FDD) and the type of services (Fixed or/and mobile) permitted.
- Visual improvements in the facilities to customise maps.
- In addition, through the 2H 2009, information about whether or not VoIP applications are restricted will be uploaded to the Spectrum Database.
The WiMAX Forum Spectrum and Regulatory Database offers information for those bands where there are already WiMAX Forum Certified™ products in 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, and others of potential interest like 3.3GHz and 3.7GHz. Full access to the database is included with WiMAX Forum Principal Membership and available to regular member companies
via a reasonable subscription.
Tim Hewitt, WiMAX Forum Director of Spectrum and Regulatory Policy emphasised the value of the database, adding “With WiMAX deployments and spectrum availability moving forward so rapidly, and with new WiMAX licences being issued frequently around the world, it is essential to have a reliable source of spectrum and regulatory information. We believe AT4 wireless does
an excellent job in working regularly with the regulators to maintain the currency of the information.”
“We believe that this tool is a unique resource for WiMAX Forum members with extremely useful features and contents. For that reason we think that it is great to have the opportunity to work with the WiMAX Forum in its creation, development and continuous improvement. It offers more possibilities every day, in fact it is proving to be very important for WiMAX vendors and
operators” said Fernando Hardasmal, AT4 wireless Deputy General Manager.
