Samsung and Scartel enter Russian Mobile WiMAX market

Scartel, LLC.,has launched Mobile WiMAX Network in cooperation with Samsung

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and Scartel LLC., announced the first launch of Mobile WiMAX network to friendly users in Russia. Scartel LLC., an emerging telecom operator in Russia has deployed the Networks in 2.5-2.7 GHz frequency in Moscow and St. Petersburg with population coverage of 20 million people.

At the press conference, Scartel LLC, announced that they selected Samsung Electronics as an exclusive Mobile WiMAX equipments vendor for Moscow and St. Petersburg. According to Scartel LLC., they have deployed Mobile WiMAX network in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, the two largest cities of Russia, and are planning to expand nationwide gradually.

For this, Samsung is providing Mobile WiMAX total solution including 1600 base stations, Access Service Network gateway and related equipments as well as services to Scartel.

"As a global leader in Mobile WiMAX technologies, Samsung is excited to offer one of the world's largest Mobile WiMAX network to Russia in partnership with Scartel LLC.," said Geesung Choi, President of Samsung Electronics Telecommunications Network Business. "We are confidently deploying Samsung's mobile WiMAX expertise from the successful track records in US and Japan, to support the launch of mobile WiMAX service in Russia," he added.

Mr. Dennis Sverdlov, CEO of Scartel said "I believe that the combination of Samsung's advanced WiMAX technologies and Scartel's innovative service applications will create absolutely new type of mobile broadband experience in Russia."

First mobile WiMAX service in Russia is named Yota. (http://www.yota.ru)
