WiMAX Forum® Second Public Mobile PlugFest Showcases Interoperability Among Mobile WiMAX Products

Portland, OR - February 13, 2007 - The WiMAX Forum has brought 35 companies from the Mobile WiMAXTM equipment and test equipment communities together for the second public mobile WiMAX Forum PlugFest, an interoperability showcase hosted by AT4 wireless Labs in Malaga, Spain. The PlugFest kicked off on Sunday, February 11, 2007 and concludes on Saturday, February 17. 

Attracting the largest number of member participants to date, WiMAXTM system and chipset supplier companies included in the WiMAX Forum-sponsored event were Accton Technology Corporation, Adaptix, Airspan Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Alvarion, Aperto Networks, Beceem, GCT Semiconductor, Inc., Huawei Technologies, Intel Corporation, LG Electronics, Motorola, Navini, Nokia, PicoChip, POSDATA, Redline Communications, Redpine Signals, Runcom Technologies Ltd., Samsung, SEQUANS Communications, SOMA Networks, Telsima, Wavesat Wireless Inc., and ZTE Corporation. In addition to these suppliers, ten test equipment vendors supported the event, including Aeroflex, AT4 wireless, Agilent, Anritsu Limited, Azimuth Systems, Anite Telecoms Ltd., Innowireless, Sanjole, Rohde & Schwarz, and Tektronix.

The WiMAX Forum PlugFest provides mobile WiMAX equipment suppliers an open environment in which to test compatibility and interoperability of equipment in preparation for certification. Interoperability is the foundation of standardization and the core tenet of the WiMAX Forum's efforts. Certification of Wave 1 mobile WiMAX products is scheduled to begin in mid 2007, with market availability of WiMAX Forum Certified mobile products beginning in late 2007. In Wave 1 of mobile WiMAX certification, the initial systems that will achieve WiMAX Forum Certification will be based on the 2.3GHz profile.
